Today I’m sharing simple laundry room organizing ideas to optimize small spaces. These practical suggestions will help with lots of small laundry room configurations, even a narrow pass through like mine.

Of course if I were designing a laundry room it would be three times as big as this, and it would be multifunctional space. It would have ample counter space for flower arranging, cute shelves, a dog bath and maybe even a wine fridge. Hey a girl can dream, can’t I?!
In reality this small space actually has a lot going for it, because it’s full with efficient organizing features. It also sports a fresh coat of paint. Reflection from Sherwin Williams which is one of my favorite paint colors because the happy blue gray color puts me in a great mood.
Laundry Room Organizing Ideas And Storage
For a small space we have pretty good storage with a tall cabinet over the sink and space under the sink as well. The trick is to edit and get rid of all the stuff you really don’t use. Simply put, why drive yourself crazy trying to organzine things you don’t really need or belong elsewhere.
For the shelves, I want a uniform system that looks more orderly than the clear plastic bins. These little baskets are nothing fancy but they do what they are supposed to do, which is to hide what’s inside. To make searching for items easier for the mister, I have simple homemade tags for each basket.
In the space under the sink is storage for basic laundry essentials and a bin for old hand towels and rags. That’s it, if it doesn’t belong here, it doesn’t go here.
More storage bins sit on shelves over the washer and dryer are for the mister. He’s a lot taller and can easily reach the bins, which is a lot more practical than me dragging out the step ladder.
Did you notice what’s hanging behind the washer? A simple curtain on a tension rod hides the ugly washer connections.
Laundry Room Organizing Ideas for Racks And Hooks
One of my absolute favorite features in the laundry room is the drying rack hanging behind the door. If you want to prolong the life of your more delicate fabrics and sweaters, a drying rack is the way to go. I use it every time I wash clothes for all the items that I don’t want to put in the dryer.
I highly recommend a drying rack or two if you have available wall space.
To make better use of the wall below the drying rack I have a handy peg rack. It’s so nice to have a spot to hang things you want to grab in a hurry, such as a jacket, hat, keys or a dog leach.
Cutting The Clutter
Keeping this small laundry room running efficiently starts with cutting the clutter. In a small space there’s just no room for it and it can hinder the function of the area. That means nothing on the floor too, except maybe a pretty rug and laundry basket.
The only thing I keep on the dryer is a recycled tissue box for lint. That way I have a clean place large enough to fold clothes or towels.
Naturally I have to have a little personality in the space with a little art work for color. For now, I’ll have to save all those extra fun decorating ideas for that dream laundry room I like to talk about. 😉
