Hello summer! Our cool days are turning hot, right on schedule. To celebrate the change of season, I’m sharing my summer home tour with blue and white accents. I can’t think of anything that says summer more than crisp shades of blue and white. Thank you for stopping by and welcome!
The summer home tour starts in the entry with a dramatic dark blue wall. My photography never quite captures the true beauty of this deep rich color, or how the color changes during the day, and from season to season. Sometimes it looks like a deep ocean blue and other times like a dark sky ready for a down pour.
Painting this wall and the wrap around wall to the kitchen, was one of my better decorating decisions. The entry table, baskets, wall hanging and accessories all look so much more interesting when framed by a dark background.
Fresh flowers are a wonderful way to celebrate summer. I never know what I’ll discover at the market. This time I couldn’t resist the spicy sweet fragrance of freesia and roses. Nothing fancy here. Instead of a vase I’m using a clear glass pitcher.
Decorating is airy and simple in the dinning room. The centerpiece is an ironstone platter filled with my creamer collection and ferns. A few weeks ago the creamers were the highlight of the summer tablescape post. Don’t forget to take a look.
Decor tip: Remember to group your collections together. They will have more impact when combined into a vignette, rather than scattered throughout your home.
Summer decorating in the living room is all about trading out accessories. Instead of decorating with lots of patterns, I like to concentrate on fabrics with texture.
One small pattern introduced in the living room is covering a pretty oversized ottoman used as a coffee table. The tan and white houndstooth is subtle and doesn’t compete with the busy Persian rug.
Here’s a list of ideas to add accent colors to your living space.
- Pillow covers
- Throw blankets
- Flowers
- Coasters
- Candles
- Trays
- Seashells
- Rugs
- Lamp shades
- Fabric book covers
For the most part, the simply styled furniture and fabrics collected in the living room are in neutral colors with minimal patterns. The velvet arm-chair, the button tufting cream sofa and French linen striped chair, all have textures that are soft and comfortable to live with.
Two white lacquered trays are used to hold accessories on the new coffee table ottoman. The cast iron star was a purchase on my first trip to the famous Canton Flea Market and adds to the other blue accents in the room.
Want to know a decorating secret?
The hydrangea stems are actually in a large plastic tumbler filled with water, and placed inside the urn. Think of it as a vase in a vase.
Thank you so much for stopping by today for the summer home tour. I hope your summer is filled with good times!
Cheers!
