My never fail basic recipe for ice cream can be amended according to your mood.
Basic Ice Cream Recipe
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup half-n-half
- 1 cup heavy cream
- ½ cup sugar
Stir until the sugar is dissolved then pour into an ice cream maker following the manufactures instructions. Easy!
Today we are feeling peachy. My whole kitchen smells wonderful thanks to the fresh peaches from the farmers market in Parker County. I chose about 6 peaches to peel and cut. I decided the ice cream would have more flavor if the peaches were pureed instead of small bites. Before using the emulsion blender, I added the juice from half a lemon and a teaspoon of sugar to enhance the flavor. Depending on the peaches available this can be adjusted.
When using a Cuisinart ice cream freezer, turn the machine on first, then pour the cream mixture (recipe above) and the puree peaches through the opening on top. Note I only used about 3/4 cup of the puree, so the number of peaches can be reduced.
I’ve decided the hardest part in making homemade ice cream is waiting the 20 minutes for it to freeze (might as well be 20 hours)!
Hint! The basic recipe is also great with 1 oz. of amaretto added half way through the freezing process. Amaretto is our favorite liqueur however there are many others that would taste great. Use your imagination!
