Cleaning “with wild abandon”

I can’t help wanting to amend the quote adding in there somewhere “unexplainably sentimental”.

Two years ago, with great care, I started cleaning out closets, drawers and cabinets. There is something therapeutic about cleaning out closed up spaces.  When the mood strikes me to purge a junk drawer or clean out a closet I jump on it with wild abandon.  Without thinking I take  one section, drawer or shelf at a time and separate as I go, deciding on the spot what to toss, what to donate and what to keep.

If you are little more cautious about making those decisions just remember you want the space to be more functional and look better too when you are finished. Find your own path to organizing, what works best for me may not work for you.  You may have some really good junk but if it is not being used give it away.  I am a huge believer in donating. Reminder – never to donate anything stained, too worn or needing repair.

Freshly painted and ready for guest.

I started my closet cleaning quest with my daughter’s room after she graduated from college and got married. It is like a breath of fresh air to walk into her room, open the closet and see a clean empty space. Now after fresh paint and rearranging the furniture, the space is perfect for our little newlyweds to come home for a weekend. Of course, I saved some her most special toys and baby outfits. Someday when she has her first child I will give her those little treasures.

Clean and uncluttered.

Little touches of my daughter’s childhood are displayed, after all it will always be her room.

Love the uncluttered look…. I’m working on the same, but for me it always looks worse before it gets better…. But what a relief to totally clean out a room!
